False declare that video reveals Sen. McConnell calling for Speaker Pelosi to be ‘jailed’

Prosecution: Video reveals Senator Mitch McConnell calling for the “imprisonment” of Home Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Some social media customers are sharing a video they declare reveals Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, calling for the “imprisonment” of Home Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California.

“You should be imprisoned!” Mitch McConnell slapped Nancy Pelosi within the face in Congress,” reads the comment on an August 16 Facebook post featuring the video.

The video was viewed 37,000 times a week and accumulated over 2,000 interactions.

But the video doesn’t show what the caption claims.

While the Senate Minority Leader mentions Pelosi during the video, he’s not calling her to jail.

Video shows McConnell pushing legislation and discussing proposed committee Jan. 6

The video clip in the social media post consists of two separate clips.

The first clip is from early 2019 and shows McConnell calling for the House of Representatives to pass legislation related to Israel, Syria, and Jordan.

In the clip, House Speaker McConnell once mentioned, “Home Speaker Pelosi seems to really feel compelled to get her members to vote on a decision that’s stated to sentence anti-Semitism.” The comment ostensibly referred to a House resolution passed in March 2019 condemning intolerance against various racial, ethnic and religious groups.

In the second clip, filmed in early 2021, McConnell discusses the proposed committee to investigate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. The structural section proposed by Pelosi for the committee was criticized as “partisan.”

McConnell did not call for Pelosi to be imprisoned in either clip.

McConnell’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
